Letter from the Editor
Dear readers
Diligent research of historical sources can yield amazing
discoveries about the historical figures who were born in Mazatlan or
simply passed through the area but left a deep impression.
Joaquin Lopez, historian and official chronicler of Teacapan,
treats us once again to such a discovery. In our opening article, he shares
an interesting story about the family tree of Ernesto "Che"
Guevara, the most important Latin American revolutionary of the latter
half of the 20th century, and the trip his relatives made across the Sinaloan
deserts on their way to the Gold Rush in San Francisco.
Likewise, the official chronicler of Mazatlan, Enrique
Vega Ayala traces the history of public transportation through a nostalgic
look back at the vehicles that circulated through the port from the mid-1800s
to the present.
We hope you enjoy.
Sincerely,
Elaine Kemp
