Letter from the Editor
Dear readers
Female strength has always been depicted in novels, stories,
and tales past and present. Women with strong character constantly capture
our admiration, empathy, and respect, for their ability to succeed in
a male dominated world while, in many cases, being confined to secondary
roles.
In our first article, Joaquin Lopez writes about the
life of Simona Martinez. During the end of the XIX century, Simona was
married to Louis Leonard Bradbury, a North American descendant of a family
of millionaires who were active in politics and held power during that
time. Simona Martinez was considered to be the richest woman in Mazatlan
and, after the death of her husband, continued to command presence and
influence in town.
Our second feature article, written by Enrique Vega,
the city chronicler, speaks of the different religions that were practiced
in Mazatlan. He tells us of the first church to open its doors that gave
people the ability to worship a religious doctrine and of the influence
of other spiritual beliefs that are expressed in this multicultural port.
We hope you enjoy them.
And as a reminder to our readers, our next edition will
be published in November. We hope you enjoy your summer in Mazatlan.
